Identify Your Target Market

  • What are your interests, skills, experiences ?   What sort of people are you familiar with ?   As an example, if you are an avid golfer, you may want to design a site that sells golf equipment, instruction, etc.   Find a market you are comfortable with, and know something about.   Then do a little brainstorming about this target group of people.

  • Find answers to questions like:
    • What are their needs ?
    • What are their wants ?
    • What problems do they have ?
    • How can you solve their problems, or meet their needs ?

  • To help answer these questions, try this.   Make a list of words or phrases related to your interests.   Type them into several search engines and see what sort of sites are returned.   Visit some of the top-ranked sites and see what they offer.   They are probably marketing to the same people you want to reach.   For a list of search engines,   Click Here.
